Silencer Reviews - Dead Air Nomad LTI XC
I often get asked, what is one of the quietest cans yet is still lightweight for a customer to buy, and my routine answer is the Dead Air Nomad LTi XC.
This Nomad is 12.2 ounces and 8.8 inches if you are using the Dead Air Xeno connect system, which is important to keep its length in mind if mobility is a concern. While it's lightweight and won't make your gun feel off balanced, at almost 9" it's going to negatively impact you if you plan on running close quarter drills. The minimal weight is achieved due to its material, Grade 5 6AI-4V Titanium. This material is perfect for reducing weight by 30+%, but it heats up quickly and limits your firing schedule. So if you like to go to the range and dump rounds and rounds downrange, then this might not be the can for you.
I ran the Nomad Lti XC on a Bergara Ridge Carbon Wilderness chambered in 300 Win Mag that features a 24" barrel, so with the Nomad Lti XC's added length, I could almost use this as a pool stick. Now with me testing this out on a bolt action gun, I've eliminated the action noise. I grabbed Winchester Deer Season XP 300 Win Mag 150gr ammunition off the shelf for this review because if I am heading out to the woods, this was my go to ammunition.
Why the 300 Win Mag and not the standard .308Win? Because this suppressor was optimized for magnum calibers, so why not test it out on one of my favorite cartridges. Our noise meter has an accuracy of +/- 2dB, so if you're looking for exact levels, I always recommend checking out PewScience's ratings. With that said, we had an average sound level of 135.8dB. How does this translate? Stupid quiet when compared to 165.6dB when shooting unsuppressed. This is the difference between comfortably shooting unsuppressed while hunting, and depending on ear protection when firing a single shot. This is especially important while hunting, so you do not have to worry about fumbling around with ear protection if you don't wish to.
